Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by George Frederick Watts could be acquired at Sothebys in London in July last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the European and British Art, Part II auction, the work A sketchbook with 18 pages of drawings (one double-sided) mostly for the spandrel depicting St Matthew the Evangelist for the dome of St Paul's Cathedral changed hands for GBP 1,890.00 (€ 2,257.00) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Frederick Watts achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Hope in June 2001 with an auction result of GBP 773,750.00 (€ 1,285,352.70).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Dieses Kunstwerk von George Frederick Watts konnte im Juli letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in London für einen unerwartet niedrigen Preis ersteigert werden. In der Auktion European and British Art, Part II wechselte die Arbeit A sketchbook with 18 pages of drawings (one double-sided) mostly for the spandrel depicting St Matthew the Evangelist for the dome of St Paul's Cathedral für GBP 1.890,00 (€ 2.257,00) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 3.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von George Frederick Watts erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Hope im Juni 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 773.750,00 (€ 1.285.352,70).
