Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Joan of Arc by George Frederick Watts was sold in the The Joe Setton Collection: from Pre-Raphaelites to Last Romantics auction at Christies in London in December 2020. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 35,000.00 (€ 39,098.12) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Frederick Watts achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Hope in June 2001 with an auction result of GBP 773,750.00 (€ 1,285,352.70).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Joan of Arc von George Frederick Watts wurde im Dezember 2020 in der Auktion The Joe Setton Collection: from Pre-Raphaelites to Last Romantics bei Christies in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 30.000,00 – 50.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 35.000,00 (€ 39.098,12) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von George Frederick Watts erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Hope im Juni 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 773.750,00 (€ 1.285.352,70).
