Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait Of A Young Gentleman by George Dawe was auctioned at Sothebys in London in November 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 22,500.00 (€ 26,420.50). Admittedly, works by George Dawe have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Grand Duke Nicholas, Later Emperor Nicholas I (1825-55), On Horseback in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 108,000.00 (€ 160,383.38).
