Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In November 2011 Christies in London held the auction Russian Art, which included the work Portrait of a young gentleman by George Dawe. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 60,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 67,250.00 (€ 78,507.49). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Dawe - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Grand Duke Nicholas, Later Emperor Nicholas I (1825-55), On Horseback, which sold at auction in November 2006 for GBP 108,000.00 (€ 160,383.38).
