Auction result well in line with expectations
In March 2006 Christies in London held the auction British and Victorian Pictures, which included the work Portrait of Benjamin Flight (1767-1846), Seated Three-Quarter-Length, At A Table By An Organ by George Dawe. The price achieved of GBP 2,280.00 (€ 3,266.83) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Dawe achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Grand Duke Nicholas, Later Emperor Nicholas I (1825-55), On Horseback in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 108,000.00 (€ 160,383.38).
