In July 2017 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Masters Evening Sale, which included the work Rome, A View Of The Church Of Santi Marcellino E Pietro, From The Vigna Ciccolini, With The Palazzo Laterano, The Church Of San Giovanni In Laterano, The Ospedale Di San Giovanni And Ruins Of The Claudian Aqueduct Beyond by Gaspar van Wittel. The price achieved of GBP 428,750.00 (€ 478,419.16) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 300,000.00 – 500,000.00. Admittedly, works by Gaspar van Wittel have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice, from the Bacino; and The Entrance to the Grand Canal, with the Santa Maria della Salute in July 2003 with an auction result of GBP 1,517,250.00 (€ 1,983,148.05).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 428.750,00 (€ 478.419,16) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 300.000,00 – 500.000,00 angegeben worden.
