This artwork by Fred Enock achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in April 2011. In the Travel, Science and Natural History auction, the work The leaf cutting bee: twenty-eight diagrams showing the anatomy, and habit of the bee as it cuts a rose leaf sold for GBP 10,625.00 (€ 11,965.58) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Fred Enock; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Willow Saw Fly: nineteen diagrams showing the anatomy, habits of saw flies and their larvae sold at auction in April 2011 with the realized price of GBP 11,250.00 (€ 12,669.44).
