This artwork by Frans Swagers achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in May 2000. In the Old Master Pictures auction, the work Shipping on a river at sunset sold for NLG 28,084.80 (€ 12,263.01) - well above the upper estimate of NLG 10,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Frans Swagers; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Barges On The River, Holland sold at auction in December 2006 with the realized price of GBP 9,000.00 (€ 13,357.13).
