Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2016 Christies in London held the auction Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art, Maritime Art, Sporting & Wildlife Art, which included the work H.M. frigate Phoenix, 36 guns, attacking the French frigate La Didon, 44 guns, 10 August 1805; and The capture of La Didon by H.M. frigate Phoenix by Francis Sartorius. It changed hands for a price of GBP 4,750.00 (€ 5,644.03) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Sartorius achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Full Cry in April 2015 with an auction result of USD 81,250.00 (€ 72,791.61).
