Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%

This artwork by Francis Hayman achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2016. In the Old Master Drawings and British Drawings and Watercolours auction, the work The Rape of the Lock sold for GBP 3,250.00 (€ 3,799.78) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Hayman achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Joseph Henry of Straffan, Co. Kildare, full-length, seated at a table writing a letter, in a blue coat, yellow waistcoat and red breeches, beside a bookcase in May 2001 with an auction result of GBP 69,750.00 (€ 116,937.46).

Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of Joseph Henry of Straffan, Co. Kildare, full-length, seated at a table writing a letter, in a blue coat, yellow waistcoat and red breeches, beside a bookcase im Mai 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 69.750,00 (€ 116.937,46).
