With sixty albumen prints, each approx. 6¼ x 9 in. or the reverse, the majority signed in the negatives, mounted on thin card, titled and with photographer's credit and date 1857 on mounts, descriptive text, contents, title page, green leather-backed cloth, titled in gilt on front cover and spine, g.e., 17¾ x 13 in.

This artwork by Francis Frith achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2000. In the Fine Photographs auction, the work Cairo, Sinai, Jerusalem, and the Pyramids of Egypt: A Series of Sixty Photographic Views...., London: James S. Virtue, 1860 sold for GBP 5,287.50 (€ 8,484.49) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00. Admittedly, works by Francis Frith have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Egypt, Palestine & Nubia in May 2004 with an auction result of GBP 31,070.00 (€ 46,616.44).

Virtue, 1860 für GBP 5.287,50 (€ 8.484,49) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 3.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Francis Frith auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Egypt, Palestine & Nubia im Mai 2004 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 31.070,00 (€ 46.616,44).
