Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Latinus Welcomes Aeneas And Offers His Daughter Lavinia In Marriage by Francesco de Mura was auctioned at Christies in New York in January 2014, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 70,000.00 – 100,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 62,500.00 (€ 46,296.30). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Francesco de Mura - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Martirio Di Santa Barbara Strage Degli Innocenti, which sold at auction in June 2011 for EUR 132,750.00.
