Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Submission of the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa to Pope Alexander III by Federico Zuccaro was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 18,900.00 (€ 16,856.94). Admittedly, works by Federico Zuccaro have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Submission Of The Emperor Frederick Barbarossa To Pope Alexander Iii in January 2010 with an auction result of USD 194,500.00 (€ 140,230.71).
