Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Ernest Crofts could be acquired at Sothebys in Olympia in July 2007 for an unexpectedly low price. In the British & Continental Pictures including Sporting and Marine Paintings auction, the work Defending The Postern Gate changed hands for GBP 2,880.00 (€ 4,277.46) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 3,000.00 – 4,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ernest Crofts achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Whitehall: January 30th, 1649 in February 2003 with an auction result of GBP 47,800.00 (€ 69,786.49).
