Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The road from Valparaíso to Santiago by Ernest Charton was sold in the Exploration and Travel including the Polar Sale auction at Christies in London in September 2010. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 70,000.00 – 100,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 70,850.00 (€ 81,945.54) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Ernest Charton - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Panorama of the City of Valparaíso, Chile, which sold at auction in October 2015 for GBP 206,500.00 (€ 288,841.92).
