A top price for Elizabeth Siddal - as previously expected
In November 2000 Christies in London held the auction British Art on Paper, which included the work Study for The Ladies' Lament from the ballad of 'Sir Patrick Spens'; and two studies for La Belle Dame sans merci (illustrated) by Elizabeth Siddal. It changed hands for a price of GBP 5,640.00 (€ 9,218.36) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Study for The Ladies' Lament from the ballad of 'Sir Patrick Spens'; and two studies for La Belle Dame sans merci (illustrated) is the most expensive artwork by Elizabeth Siddal that we have observed at auctions so far.
