Auction result well in line with expectations
In January 2012 Sothebys in New York held the auction Important Old Master Paintings and Sculpture, which included the work An Allegory Of Fame And An Allegory Of Virtue by Elisabetta Sirani. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 150,000.00 – 200,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 158,500.00 (€ 121,428.02) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Elisabetta Sirani - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portia Wounding Her Thigh, which sold at auction in January 2008 for USD 505,000.00 (€ 340,273.57).
