Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Edwin Long achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2012. In the Victorian & British Impressionist Art auction, the work Gibraltar; from the series 'Daughters of Our Empire' High on the Rock that fronts the sea Stands alone our fortress key Lady of the Southern main sold for GBP 32,450.00 (€ 40,019.86) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 15,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Edwin Long achieve.
