Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of Aline Henderson, three-quarter length, in a blue dress, seated on a swing by Edward John Gregory was auctioned at Christies in London in September 2002, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,175.00 (€ 1,867.34). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Edward John Gregory achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Rediviva: Great-Grandmother'S Wedding Dress in June 2005 with an auction result of GBP 14,400.00 (€ 21,341.71).
