Auction result well in line with expectations
In March 2001 Christies in London held the auction BRITISH AND VICTORIAN PAINTINGS, INCLUDING SCOTTISH PICTURES, which included the work Figures resting by a cottage in an extensive river estuary landscape by Edward Charles Williams. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 6,462.50 (€ 10,427.89) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Edward Charles Williams - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A gypsy encampment in a wooded landscape, which sold at auction in June 2004 for GBP 15,535.00 (€ 23,120.73).
