This artwork by Ebenezer Colls achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2004. In the Maritime Pictures auction, the work A screw two-decker lying at anchor at dusk sold for GBP 1,075.50 (€ 1,613.65) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 600.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Ebenezer Colls - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A three-decker reducing sail in Spithead in preparation for her arrival into Portsmouth Harbour, which sold at auction in May 2004 for GBP 3,585.00 (€ 5,378.82).
