In May 2011 Christies in New York held the auction Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture, which included the work The Eavesdropper by Eastman Johnson. The »bidding war« ended at USD 104,500.00 (€ 72,690.60), 49% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Eastman Johnson have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Little Soldier in May 2005 with an auction result of USD 856,000.00 (€ 693,173.54).

Im Mai 2011 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Eavesdropper von Eastman Johnson zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 104.500,00 (€ 72.690,60) und damit 49% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Eastman Johnson auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Little Soldier im Mai 2005 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 856.000,00 (€ 693.173,54).
