Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Donald De Lue achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in October 2007. In the American Paintings, Drawings & Sculpture auction, the work The Mighty Atom sold for USD 61,000.00 (€ 42,162.01) - well above the upper estimate of USD 24,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Donald De Lue; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Cosmic Head sold at auction in March 2020 with the realized price of USD 68,750.00 (€ 62,335.66).
