In December 2017 Christies in London held the auction Victorian Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art, which included the work The Attack On The Island Of Gorée, Off The Coast Of Senegal, On 29 December 1758 Under The Command Of Commodore The Honourable Augustus Keppel by Dominic Serres. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 11,875.00 (€ 13,363.57), 48% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Dominic Serres achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Capture Of Havana, Cuba: The Taking Of The Town By British Forces Under The Command Of The Earl Of Albemarle, 14 August 1762 in July 2016 with an auction result of GBP 581,000.00 (€ 690,353.69).

Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Dominic Serres erzielen.
