In December 2011 Christies in London held the auction Sporting & Wildlife Art, Including An Important Private Collection of works by Wilhelm Kuhnert and David Shepherd, which included the work A chestnut hunter and Newfoundland dog in an extensive landscape, a country house beyond by David Dalby. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 3,250.00 (€ 3,892.33), 63% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by David Dalby - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Jerry, winner of the 1824 St. Leger, with Ben Smith up, by a post at Doncaster, which sold at auction in November 2002 for GBP 9,560.00 (€ 14,970.47).
