Auction result misses estimated price range
In February 2003 a collector was able to acquire the work The Play Scene in 'Hamlet' by Daniel Maclise for GBP 17,327.50 (€ 25,297.60). This price was achieved in the auction THE FORBES COLLECTION OF VICTORIAN PICTURES AND WORKS OF ART at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 18,000.00 – 25,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Daniel Maclise achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Wrestling Scene in 'As You Like It' in February 2003 with an auction result of GBP 314,650.00 (€ 459,379.08).
