The result of GBP 30,000.00 (€ 33,693.86) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 30,000.00 – 50,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Daniel Maclise achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Wrestling Scene in 'As You Like It' in February 2003 with an auction result of GBP 314,650.00 (€ 459,379.08).

Die Arbeit The Ballad Seller von Daniel Maclise wurde im September 2018 in der Auktion Irish Art bei Sothebys in London versteigert. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von GBP 30.000,00 (€ 33.693,86) entsprach exakt dem unteren Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 30.000,00 – 50.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Daniel Maclise erzielen.
