In October 2019 Christies in London held the auction Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Auction, which included the work the diagonal of May 25, 1963 by Dan Flavin. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 971,250.00 (€ 1,126,580.35), 39% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Dan Flavin - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Alternate Diagonals Of March 2, 1964 (To Don Judd), which sold at auction in May 2014 for USD 3,077,000.00 (€ 2,255,865.10).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 39 % übertroffen
Im Oktober 2019 führte Christies in London die Auktion Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Auction durch, in der auch die Arbeit the diagonal of May 25, 1963 von Dan Flavin zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 971.250,00 (€ 1.126.580,35) und damit 39% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Dan Flavin mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Alternate Diagonals Of March 2, 1964 (To Don Judd) beobachtet, die im Mai 2014 für USD 3.077.000,00 (€ 2.255.865,10) versteigert wurde.
