Auction result misses estimated price range
In January this year a collector was able to acquire the work A cattle market by a canal on the outskirts of town by Cornelis Saftleven for USD 63,000.00 (€ 58,021.74). This price was achieved in the auction Remastered: Old Masters from the Collection of J.E. Safra - Selling Without Reserve at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 80,000.00 – 120,000.00 set by the auction house. Admittedly, works by Cornelis Saftleven have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A cat peeping through a fence in May 2005 with an auction result of USD 441,600.00 (€ 357,599.81).
