The »bidding war« ended at GBP 193,250.00 (€ 221,783.29), 61% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Corneille de Lyon - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of a merchant, traditionally identified as Theodore Beza (1519-1605), which sold at auction in December 2016 for GBP 665,000.00 (€ 777,492.89).

Die Arbeit Portrait Of A Man, Half Length, In A Slashed Jerkin Over A White Doublet In A Black Feathered Cap von Corneille de Lyon wurde im Juli 2011 in der Auktion Old Master and British Paintings Evening Sale bei Sothebys in London versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 193.250,00 (€ 221.783,29) und damit 61% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Corneille de Lyon mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Portrait of a merchant, traditionally identified as Theodore Beza (1519-1605) beobachtet, die im Dezember 2016 für GBP 665.000,00 (€ 777.492,89) versteigert wurde.
