This artwork by Corneille de Lyon achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2011. In the Old Master and British Paintings Evening Sale auction, the work Portrait Of A Bearded Gentleman, In A Black Beret With White Plumage sold for GBP 385,250.00 (€ 442,132.01) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 200,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Corneille de Lyon; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait of a merchant, traditionally identified as Theodore Beza (1519-1605) sold at auction in December 2016 with the realized price of GBP 665,000.00 (€ 777,492.89).
