Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of John Calvin (1509-1564), Bust-Length, In Clerical Costume by Corneille de Lyon was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2006. The price achieved of GBP 36,000.00 (€ 52,699.78) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 30,000.00 – 50,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Corneille de Lyon achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of a merchant, traditionally identified as Theodore Beza (1519-1605) in December 2016 with an auction result of GBP 665,000.00 (€ 777,492.89).
