Auction result misses estimated price range
In July last year a collector was able to acquire the work Scène de Brigands by Claude Gellée for GBP 2,000.00 (€ 2,388.36). This price was achieved in the auction Old Master and British Works on Paper: Drawings, Watercolours and Prints 1500-1900 at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Claude Gellée achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Mediterranean Port At Sunrise With The Embarkation Of Saint Paula For Jerusalem in December 2013 with an auction result of GBP 4,450,000.00 (€ 5,352,659.84).
