Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Church of Santissima Trinità dei Monti, Rome, a goatherd resting with his herd in the foreground by Claude Gellée was sold in the Old Master & British Drawings auction at Christies in London in July 2016. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 100,000.00 – 150,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 104,500.00 (€ 124,168.61) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Claude Gellée achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Mediterranean Port At Sunrise With The Embarkation Of Saint Paula For Jerusalem in December 2013 with an auction result of GBP 4,450,000.00 (€ 5,352,659.84).

Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 100.000,00 – 150.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 104.500,00 (€ 124.168,61) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen.
