This artwork by Chia Yu Chian achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Hong Kong in November 2015. In the Convergences: A Special Sale of Singapore Art auction, the work By The River sold for HKD 687,500.00 (€ 83,968.47) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 300,000.00. This high result makes By The River the most expensive artwork by Chia Yu Chian that we have observed at auctions so far.
