Description
CHAU HANG (B. 1962) Cicada Scroll, mounted and framed, ink and colour on paper 69 x 34 cm. (27 1 ⁄ 8 x 13 3 ⁄ 8 in.) Signed, with two seals of the artist NOTE: Zhou Heng, the grandson of Zhao Shao’ang (1905-1998), has accumulated many awards in calligraphy and painting competitions throughout Hong Kong and China. He is currently the Honorary President of the Lingnan Branch of the Chinese Academy of Chinese Painting and the Chairman of the Hong Kong Lingnan Art Association.
A top price for Chau Hang
This artwork by Chau Hang achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Hong Kong in September last year. In the Summer Reverie: Chinese Paintings Online auction, the work Cicada sold for HKD 35,280.00 (€ 4,590.76) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 20,000.00. This high result makes Cicada the most expensive artwork by Chau Hang that we have observed at auctions so far.
