Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Charles Wynne Nicholls could be acquired at Christies in London in December 2010 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Victorian & British Impressionist Pictures Including Drawings and Watercolours auction, the work "What are the wild waves saying?" Florence and Paul Dombey from Dombey & Son, by Charles Dickens changed hands for GBP 7,500.00 (€ 8,699.98) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. Other works by Charles Wynne Nicholls have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in June 2003 by the work "What are the wild waves saying?" Florence and Paul Dombey from Dombey & Son, Charles Dickens at GBP 8,962.50 (€ 12,879.60).
