Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of George, 1st Baron Vernon of Sudbury, Derbyshire (b. 1707-8), three-quarter-length, in a red coat and white waistcoat with gold trim, in a landscape by Charles Philips was auctioned at Christies in London in April 2007. The price achieved of GBP 18,000.00 (€ 26,354.32) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Philips - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Group portrait of a family, possibly members of the Vernon family, with a servant, in an elegant interior, which sold at auction in March 2008 for GBP 54,500.00 (€ 68,465.52).
