Auction result well in line with expectations
In June 2008 Sothebys in London held the auction Important British Paintings, which included the work Portrait Of A Gentleman, Full Length, Seated Playing A Cello, A Spinet Behind by Charles Philips. The price achieved of GBP 6,250.00 (€ 7,900.21) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. Admittedly, works by Charles Philips have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Group portrait of a family, possibly members of the Vernon family, with a servant, in an elegant interior in March 2008 with an auction result of GBP 54,500.00 (€ 68,465.52).
