In November 2000 Christies in London held the auction IMPORTANT PORTRAIT MINIATURES, GOLD BOXES & OBJECTS OF VERTU, which included the work A young lady, facing right in lilac-coloured dress with white underslip, gold buckle at corsage, drop pearl earrings, thin black necklace, white plume in her upswept and curled brown hair by Charles Guillaume Alexandre Bourgeois. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,762.50 (€ 2,880.74), 18% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Guillaume Alexandre Bourgeois - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A young gentleman and lady in profile to left, dark background; he in blue coat with yellow waistcoat and cravat, forward-combed brown hair and sideburns; and she in white dress, pearl-set gold comb in her plaited upswept hair, which sold at auction in November 2001 for GBP 4,700.00 (€ 7,479.18).
