Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Autumn by Charles Ephraim Burchfield was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 20,160.00 (€ 16,532.72). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Charles Ephraim Burchfield achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Cherry Blossom Snow in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 1,812,500.00 (€ 1,553,127.68).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Autumn von Charles Ephraim Burchfield im Mai 2021 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 30.000,00 – 50.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 20.160,00 (€ 16.532,72) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Charles Ephraim Burchfield erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Cherry Blossom Snow im Mai 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.812.500,00 (€ 1.553.127,68).
