Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In October last year Bonhams in London held the auction The Marine Sale, which included the work A naval squadron manoeuvring in a swell off Dover 71.1 x 91.5cm (28 x 36in) in a carved frame by Charles Brooking. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 30,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 31,800.00 (€ 37,046.65). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Brooking - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Men-O'-War Reefed-Down And Riding Out A Gale, which sold at auction in June 2014 for GBP 68,500.00 (€ 85,587.47).
