Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Self-portrait, bust-length, wearing the cross of Malta by Carlo Cignani was sold in the Old Master and 19th Century Drawings including Property from auction at Christies in New York in January 2002. The price achieved of USD 4,700.00 (€ 5,468.93) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Carlo Cignani achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work An Allegory of the Five Senses in January last year with an auction result of USD 327,600.00 (€ 292,186.94).
