Auction result misses estimated price range
In April last year a collector was able to acquire the work El Capitan, Yosemite by Carleton E. Watkins for USD 17,640.00 (€ 16,741.01). This price was achieved in the auction Photographs at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Carleton E. Watkins achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'The Garrison, Columbia River' in April 2007 with an auction result of USD 492,000.00 (€ 360,175.70).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Im April letzten Jahres konnte ein Sammler die Arbeit El Capitan, Yosemite von Carleton E. Watkins für USD 17.640,00 (€ 16.741,01) erwerben. Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion Photographs bei Sothebys in New York erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von USD 20.000,00 – 30.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Carleton E. Watkins erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit 'The Garrison, Columbia River' im April 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 492.000,00 (€ 360.175,70).
