This artwork by Byron Browne achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in October last year. In the The Ann & Gordon Getty Collection: Volume 2 |Old Master, 19th and 20th Century Paintings, Day Sale auction, the work Lady Lion Tamer sold for USD 138,600.00 (€ 139,520.84) - well above the upper estimate of USD 60,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Byron Browne; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Classical Still Life sold at auction in November 2018 with the realized price of USD 162,500.00 (€ 143,513.20).
