Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Preliminary Sketch for 1970 Sydney Exhibition by Brett Whiteley was sold in the Modern British and Irish Art Day Sale auction at Christies in London in March last year. The price achieved of GBP 63,000.00 (€ 74,693.59) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 50,000.00 – 70,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Brett Whiteley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Australian Opera House in May 2007 with an auction result of AUD 2,880,000.00 (€ 1,770,858.54).
