A top price for Brett Whiteley - as previously expected
In May 2007 Sothebys in Sydney held the auction Important Australian Art Including Works from the Qantas Collection, which included the work Australian Opera House by Brett Whiteley. It changed hands for a price of AUD 2,880,000.00 (€ 1,770,858.54) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of AUD 2,000,000.00 – 3,000,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Australian Opera House is the most expensive artwork by Brett Whiteley that we have observed at auctions so far.
