Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Tulips, roses and other flowers in a basket on a table, with shells, fruit, a lizard and a butterfly by Balthasar van der Ast was sold in the Old Master Paintings and Sculpture: Part II auction at Christies in New York in January 2024. The price achieved of USD 100,800.00 (€ 88,096.49) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 80,000.00 – 120,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Balthasar van der Ast achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Still Life Of Fruit And Shells With A Rose And Various Insects Upon A Stone Ledge in December 2012 with an auction result of GBP 1,497,250.00 (€ 1,846,525.06).

Die Arbeit Tulips, roses and other flowers in a basket on a table, with shells, fruit, a lizard and a butterfly von Balthasar van der Ast wurde im Januar 2024 in der Auktion Old Master Paintings and Sculpture: Part II bei Christies in New York versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 100.800,00 (€ 88.096,49) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 80.000,00 – 120.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Balthasar van der Ast erzielen.
