Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Recto: Two elaborate designs with shields and trophies of war supported by putti, incorporating the Medici balls and arms, the Della Rovere oak, coronets and a cardinal's hat, and a separate study of the head of a ram; Verso: Studies of groups putti by Baldassare Franceschini was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2021. The price achieved of GBP 5,040.00 (€ 5,910.45) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Baldassare Franceschini achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of the Marchese Altoviti as Hylas in April 2017 with an auction result of USD 751,500.00 (€ 689,765.95).
