Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Metamorphosis, Portrait Of Oswell Blakeston by Austin Osman Spare was auctioned at Bonhams in March this year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 5,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 17,850.00 (€ 20,307.82). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Austin Osman Spare - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Nude, Charlotte Newman, which sold at auction in December 2015 for GBP 43,750.00 (€ 59,410.40).
Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Metamorphosis, Portrait Of Oswell Blakeston von Austin Osman Spare im März diesen Jahres bei Bonhams versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – GBP 5.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit GBP 17.850,00 (€ 20.307,82) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von Austin Osman Spare mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Nude, Charlotte Newman beobachtet, die im Dezember 2015 für GBP 43.750,00 (€ 59.410,40) versteigert wurde.
